The Hoyt Foundation February Newsletter

From the Office of the President

Do you have any family traditions on Valentine's Day?

In our family the three boys Rick the oldest, Rob the middle brother and myself, the youngest used to try and play a trick on our mother and then just as she was ready to send us to our rooms for being disruptive we would give her a Valentine’s Day gift.  The joke was usually just something foolish like writing under Rick’s armpit “Please wash me mom it stinks in here” or stuffing newspaper in Rick’s shoes so when mom tried to put his shoes on his feet the shoes wouldn’t fit.  The gift was usually a homemade card with pictures that Rob and I drew and a note Rick would write on his computer telling mom how much we loved her.

One year I don’t remember how old we were we played a doozy. It was all Rick’s idea.  We dressed Rick up in one of mom’s best dresses and even her bra and underwear putting fruit in the right places to make sure the “look” was right.  We pushed Rick in the hall so she would see him just as she entered the front door after a long day at work.  When mom saw this she started screaming and calling for Rob and I to get out here and explain.  Then she saw Rick had a note in his hand and when she read it, it said please go in the kitchen. Mom’s favorite color was yellow and we knew with this joke we had better have a very nice gift.  Between the three of us, we saved enough to buy her a beautiful display of yellow roses that were on the counter in the kitchen.

That night when Dad got home for dinner he didn’t even ask why mom was smiling and Rick was sitting at the dinner table with mom feeding him while he was wearing one of her best dresses.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Team Hoyt, The Hoyt Foundation and the Hoyt Family.
