The Hoyt Foundation November Newsletter |
From the Office of the President |
November is the month where we like to give THANKS by sharing things we are thankful for. We are thankful for the opportunity that Mom & Dad’s belief that Rick MUST be included provided opportunities in so many ways. One of those ways is pictured here. Going to Hawaii in October of 1988 when Dad and Rick tried to complete the Ironman. |
Yes, I said tried. A lot of people don’t remember that the first time Dad and Rick tried to complete the Hawaiian Ironman they did not make the cut off time in the swim. But that did not stop them. They asked themselves can we try again? Everyone knows the answer was “YES YOU CAN!” In 1989 we all went back and Dad and Rick became the first Duo to ever finish the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.
That ability to say YES YOU CAN is the inspiration for the Hoyt Foundation. The foundation is thankful that Dick, Judy and Rick have created such an incredible legacy for us to continue to grow and honor. We all hope you all have something to be just as thankful for as we do. |

New York, NY, November 3, 2024 Team Hoyt is spreading the news. We own New York City. On Friday night we enjoyed the company of Susan Hurley and Kim Chisholm as we took part in the Night of Champions honoring Katherine Switzer, Gabby Thomas and Art Moore. |
On Saturday we celebrated at JAMS with our team at a special brunch and Sue Hurley gave the runners an invigorating pep talk. |
Then Sunday our eight runners were amazing out on the course blazing through the 5 burrows with some amazing times. |
Additionally, this team has raised over $45,000 that will be used to fund Dick & Judy Hoyt Inclusion grants. |

Calling All Qualified Runners |
Are you or do you know someone who has qualified to run the Boston Marathon in 2025? Who love's Team Hoyt? Can you or can't you as a qualified runner join us as part of our 2025 marathon team? |
| |
Please join us to run for Team Hoyt on the 45th Anniversary of the first time Dick & Rick ran Boston. Click the link below to apply! |
Who has already committed to running for Team Hoyt as a qualified runner? Adam Hurst!
And why is Adam joining Team Hoyt in 2025? I reached out to be a part of Team Hoyt as a qualified runner because like many I was always amazed at the accomplishments of Rick & Dick while carrying forward the mission of The Hoyt Foundation.
I was appreciative to be selected as a charity runner in 2013 and 2014. Being part of these teams was an awesome experience. The individuals selected were an unbelievable group, many of who were heavily involved in the standing up of Team Hoyt New England, Team Hoyt San Diego or were inspired to start their own foundations for causes close to them. I look forward to running with the 2025 team! |

Charity Runners - Where Are They Now? |
Storrs, CT October 27, 2024
Do you ever wonder what our charity runners do when they are not running to inspire others and raise money to help The Hoyt Foundation continue its mission of inclusion? We do. So we caught up with one half of last year’s honorary Duo, Chrissy Davidson. In April 2024 she pushed her father in an amazing tribute to Dad and Rick where the child – Chrissy – got to do what Rick always wished he could do, push the Dad – Bill – in the Boston Marathon.
When Chrissy is not pushing her Dad, she is coaching the UConn Huskies Field Hockey team. |
We were lucky enough to watch the game with Chrissy’s husband Nick who helped us learn about the rules of field hockey. It is a great sport with lots of action. |
It was an exciting game against Syracuse, and UConn scored the first goal of the game! |
In the end Syracuse stormed back and won the game 3 to 1. UConn is still having a great season as this result left them with a 14 – 3 record and the team is looking strong for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. |

The World Championship Ironman in Kona, Hawaii holds a special place in the hearts and minds of every member of the Hoyt family (see Office of the President Article). This year’s race ended up being special again for two reasons. First our close friend and the person who got Dad and Rick into triathlons in the first place completed the iconic race. Dave McGillivray at the age of 70 no less went to Hawaii and conquered what may be the most challenging endurance event out there. When Dave saw Dad and Rick running he encouraged Dad to try triathlons. Dad said not without my son and Dave helped make it happen. Dave was the one who got Dad and Rick into the Ironman and the rest as they say is history. Dave continues to inspire and motivate others to do what he did and “Finish Strong.”
The second reason we were thrilled to see the results of the 2024 Ironman was conquest of two brothers. Brent & Kyle Pease are the only Duo, other than Dad and Rick, to ever complete the Ironman in Hawaii and now they have done it twice! Brent & Kyle are also amazing champions of Inclusion in Sport and everything they do, they do it the way it should be done. |
The Ironman is all about finding your limits and pushing beyond. Can you use the inspiration created by Dave, Kyle and Brent? YES YOU CAN! |

Hockomock YMCA Legends Ball |
Wrentham, MA October 15, 2024
Every year the Hockomock YMCA celebrates inclusion at their Legends Ball. Dad and Rick were the first ever non-Patriots football player to receive the honor. They were the 2012 Legend’s Ball Honorees. |
Representing the Hoyt Family, Team Hoyt and the Hoyt Foundation were: Lisa, Amanda, Troy, Russ, Cam, Zoe,
Jason and Sarah Hoyt. |
This year’s honoree was Brenden Schooler, a fantastic Special Teams player for the New England Patriots. He is a true supporter of the YMCA’s Integration Initiative and champion of inclusion. |
The Hockomock YMCA really knows how to throw a party when they put on this event. They have silent and live auctions where many folks were able to bid on and win footballs signed by all the legends in attendance. Each table gets the honor of sitting with a legend. We were lucky enough to sit with Ilia Jarostchuk who played special teams and linebacker for the New England Patriots in 1990 and 1991.

Team Hoyt Ambassador Spotlight |
Great moment to share from Team Hoyt Ambassador Michelle Nolan. Michelle pushing her son Luke set a new half marathon PR!
Hope all is well with you and the family. So proud to share that Luke and I finally improved upon our PR at the half marathon distance two weeks ago at the "A" Mountain half (and we were the fastest duo too). That goal was quietly tormenting me for years! I'm so proud of his #YesYouCan spirit and had a woman say to me "it doesn't feel like a 'real race' unless Team Hoyt is here." I wanted to pass that onto you and the family as the 'normalcy' of Team Hoyt at races and community events is such a big part of inclusion for me/us.
