Every family has their own way of celebrating the Holidays. In our family Rick had a tradition that he would pick one person every year at Christmas and he would buy them a joke gift. He would usually have one of his PCAs (Personal Care Assistants) wrap it in multiple boxes. Each box wrapped in multiple layers of wrapping paper, with extra tape! As each friend or family member was waiting their turn to open the gift labeled to them from Rick, we would all look at Rick. If he smiled and sat calmly then we knew we were off the hook. Once he started to laugh and usually laugh so hard that he started to shake you knew you were the target that year.

One year when our brother Rob had won a state championship in swimming Rick gave him a jar of water with a card that said, “Let’s see you swim fast in this!” A different year he gave our mother one of her own bras to her with a card that said, “I got you something that I knew would fit!” The year Dad was the target Rick gave him a pair of running shorts with a card that said, “These have not been washed since the Boston Marathon last April!” When I was his target, I was in the middle of what became an undefeated season in wrestling and Rick gave me a Hulk Hogan wrestling doll with a card that said, “This doll is a better wrestler than you!”
Here at The Hoyt Foundation, we love family, traditions and things that make us laugh, smile and enjoying this most joyous time of year. We hope you and your family have happiness, laughter and joy. Happy Holidays from The Hoyt Family, Team Hoyt and The Hoyt Foundation.

Dick and Judy Inclusion Grant Update |
Two of our grant recipients shared their experiences with the chairs we were able to provide through the Dick & Judy Hoyt YES YOU CAN Inclusion Grants in partnership with The Flutie Foundation. From the Carleton Family: Again, we want to thank you for your great generosity in awarding our daughter, Emily, a 2024 Grant to purchase a Hoyt Running Chair in order for her to participate in runs with her dad, peers and countless others! |
When we first received the chair, she was a little apprehensive about climbing aboard, but once she got in, she was excited and ready to roll! |
From the Benedict Family: Our family was a recipient of a Hoyt running wheelchair. We wanted to say thank you and let you know that we put it to good use as soon as possible. |
Farrah's chair arrived 2 weeks ago and she & I got it out for a brief run a few days later. Today she and I were able to run our first event together, a 5 Mile Turkey Trot that benefits scholarships for local high school runners. |
I cannot tell you how many positive comments we received. Farrah has had a few health issues since March that have made it harder to get outside and enjoy fresh air. That was not a problem today.
Thank you so much! Our next grant cycle opens on Rick’s birthday January 10th. If you know of someone who could benefit from support to make their dream of inclusion come true please send them to our website - Dick & Judy Hoyt YES YOU CAN Inclusion Grants |

Team Hoyt took part in the Hopkinton Holiday Stroll put on by the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce. Downtown Hopkinton bustled with activity for the Holiday Stroll. Families raced between businesses to get their Holiday Stroll “passports” stamped. The Metrowest YMCA and the 26.2 Foundation were helping recruit runners for the Team Hoyt Memorial YES YOU CAN Run Together, downtown. We even got to take a “swimmingly” good picture with a giant Goldfish.

Team Hoyt was invited to share space at one of our premier race sponsors, Start Line Brewery, for the day. We helped stamp passports, signed up runners, walkers and rollers and handed out Team Hoyt bumper stickers. |

Boston Marathon Team Member 2025 |
As we form our Boston Marathon team each year, we send our runners a gift of our red training singlet to motivate their training. Here is a member of the 2025 Boston Marathon Charity team, Alex Burr, showing off her singlet and training form at the Harborside Half Marathon in Newburyport, MA which was November 10. Alex said, “A chilly but fun race!” |

Michelle Nolen has been one of our busiest Team Hoyt Ambassadors as she is visiting Team Hoyt chapters across the US. Most recently she was in Las Vegas for a half marathon. |

Prior to that she and her son Luke did something pretty cool. She shared the following
So proud to share that Luke and I finally improved upon our PR at the half marathon distance two weeks ago at the "A" Mountain half (and we were the fastest duo too). That goal was quietly tormenting me for years! I'm so proud of his #YesYouCan spirit and had a woman say to me "it doesn't feel like a 'real race' unless Team Hoyt is here." I wanted to pass that onto you and the family as the 'normalcy' of Team Hoyt at races and community events is such a big part of inclusion for me/us.
