Remembering Mom
March 8 th is my mom Judy Hoyt’s birthday. As March approaches I always think of my mom and her beautiful, powerful, awe-inspiring energy. March is when spring starts. Mom’s spirit reminds me of Spring in that the energy of new growth is released. Mom always taught us, all of us, that we can do things that seem difficult. She knew Rick couldn’t walk but she taught him to swim. |
She never let Rick’s disability get in the way of experiencing life. She challenged him to try everything and never put limits on himself. That kind of belief in a child with all the challenges Rick had takes an incredible amount of energy. When my mom transitioned from being a mother to being a Grandmother, she became Granny Eagle. Granny Eagle, sometimes Granny “E” or even just “E” taught her grandchildren to have the same belief in themselves that she gave Rick. She also shared that energy with anyone who needed it. It keeps our whole family moving forward to continue the work that she, Dad and Rick started. So now that Dad and Rick are together in their final resting place at the Cape Cod National Cemetery it is only fitting the Eagle rests there too. We added the Eagle to the head stone that marks Dad and Rick’s burial place so they all rest together and inspire the family to continue to grow their legacy.

Happy birthday Mom and thanks for the energy! |

March 7, 2024 The Hoyt Foundation President & CEO Russ Hoyt was the Keynote speaker at the Rooster Booster in Owensboro, Kentucky. |
The Rooster Booster is the monthly breakfast hosted by the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce. As March is Disability Awareness month Wendell Foster co-hosted the event and invited Russ & Lisa to Kentucky and asked Russ to share Team Hoyt’s message of YES YOU CAN at their event. It was an amazing event attended by more than 350 business owners in the Greater Owensboro area. Wendell Foster’s mission is to empower people with disabilities to realize their dreams and potential.
You can learn more about this amazing agency here: Wendell Foster
The team of Kara Howard, Gabby Bradley, Amanda Eden, and Kirk Aldridge, at Wendell Foster were amazing hosts. Doug Hoyt, who is not related but did introduce himself as Russ’s Brother from another mother, is the Executive Director of Wendell Foster. Doug and his wife Brenda took good care of Russ & Lisa during the trip. |
Tim Allen, President of the Wendall Foster Board and Candance Brake, President of the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce were amazing in their collaboration in putting this event together and Candance even sported a Boston Bruins jersey in honor of Rick’s first words – Go Bruins! |
After Russ presented YES YOU CAN the story of Team Hoyt there was not a dry eye in the house. The YES YOU CAN Message was well received. |

Ambassador Update - Team Hoyt Boston Marathon |
I finished the Chicago Marathon (10/8) in 6:36:33 and vertical! I was happily clipping along until mile 21 when I tripped (over my own extra wide Bondi 8 shoes) and my chin hit the concrete first - not my feet!!! I may not be the fastest cracker out of the box - but I was determined to finish!! I was so thankful to walk the last 5 miles and finish with a smile on my face - and blood on my fingers and bib!!! I was only 10 days away (10/18) from being in the 75 + year old category!!! This is just to let you know "this old lady will keep on going"- and will finish for Team Hoyt!
