From the Office of the President

June is when we move from Spring to Summer.  The Hoyt Foundation is making a lot of moves too.  We had close to 500 runners and walkers at the Team Hoyt Memorial. See Race Summary for details.

We announced our YES YOU CAN Grant winners.  See Grant announcement for details.

We are recruiting runners for Falmouth and we just filled our team for New York. Click the link to join our team running in Falmouth - LINK to Run Falmouth  

We are joining our friends at Venture for their annual golf tournament.

We are supporting Pat Lyons as she promotes Triathlons being run in honor of her son Bryan who was a great friend of our family and the only person other than Dad to push Rick in the Boston Marathon.  To learn more about these races check out this link - trifury - Bryan Lyons Try the Tri

Team Hoyt Memorial Race 2024 Recap

One of race participants summed up her experience:

 

“I just wanted to reach out and thank you for an incredible experience at the race on Saturday. It seemed like an incredible success, as well!

 

The day was very well planned, and I had a great time! The words from both you and Dave McGillivray at the start line gave me chills.

 

I did not expect to win my age group at all, but I will say, having a trophy that says "yes you can" means so much to me. I have had plenty of self-doubt, especially with my own running journey, so to have a physical reminder that I am capable means the world to me.

 

As I mentioned on Saturday, the sign with Rick on the hill was awesome. While a hard course, it was absolutely worth the challenge.”

Our Volunteers are the lifeblood of this event to support us. 

The Marathon Elementary School set us up in the gym and is the perfect place to start the race.

The color guard from my father’s Air National Guard Unit, the 104th Fighter Wing gave us just the right note for having our race on Memorial Day Weekend:

The kids race stole the show.  Every child wore the number 00 to ho or the number Rick was given in his first race when no one thought he and Dad would finish.  The number now reminds us anything is possible if you say YES YOU CAN!

We plan to make this an annual event so If you weren’t able to join us this year please plan for it next year.  Mark your calendar now for Saturday May 24, 2025!
 

Dick and Judy Hoyt Grant For Inclusion Update

The Hoyt Foundation is proud to announcement through its partnership with the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation the awarding of the Dick & Judy Hoyt YES YOU CAN Inclusion grants.  This year our award winners include:

 

  1. Inclusive alpine ski racing
  2. Blade Running chair
  3. Push Chair to participate in races
  4. Compete in the National Invention Convention against nondisabled peers
  5. Blade Running chair to participate in various races in college
  6. Participate in inclusive karate and art classes
  7. Running Chair
  8. Compete in surfing competitions with nondisabled peers
  9. Hoyt Blade Runner for various races
  10. Transportation to be employed alongside nondisabled peers
  11. Participate through Unified Health in Inclusive Athletic Training
  12. Hoyt Blade Running Chair
