The Hoyt Foundation January Newsletter

I am excited to share this newsletter to support three words and three things.  The three words are:

The three things are: The Hoyt Family, Team Hoyt and The Hoyt Foundation.  The three words and the three things all promote one

thing – inclusion.  Our mission is to build the individual character, self-confidence and self-esteem of America’s disabled young people through inclusion in all facets of daily life; including in family and community activities, especially sports, at home, in schools, and in the workplace. Each year, the Hoyt family led by Dick and Judy’s oldest son Rick Hoyt, plans to show the world how to do this by speaking before community and professional groups, and by direct participation in many road races, triathlons and other endurance events. The Foundation also provides advice and support to groups and individuals who share this mission.  Our newest venture is the Dick and Judy Hoyt “Yes You Can” Grants. 

The Hoyt Foundation is proud to be offering Dick and Judy Hoyt “Yes You Can” Grants to provide opportunities for inclusion for their child with a disability the way Dick and Judy did for Rick. Families with a child with a disability can request grants from $5,000 to $25,000 to help their child be included alongside their non-disabled peers.  This year we are partnering with the Flutie Foundation who will match The Hoyt Foundation’s $25,000 so that there will be $50,000 of grant money available.  The process for applying for grants opens today Rick’s birthday January 10, 2023.  The grant application process closes on Judy’s Birthday March 8, 2023.  Grants will be awarded on Dick’s birthday June 1, 2023. Reminiscing with Rick

Dear friends, 

Our Dad passed away in March of 2021. We miss him dearly but our memories of him warm our hearts every day. In this spot in our newsletter I will share memories and stories of Dad (pictured left) and our entire family. 

For our first newsletter I will update you on our growing family. Before Dad's passing Rob married Zaida (pictured left) on December 26, 2015. I want to welcome Zaida to our family!

Rob and Zaida's daughter Cassie (33) is in the Navy and lives in Virginia. I want to welcome Cassie to our family!

Rob's oldest son JT (32) married Kate Dabrowski (28) on June 25, 2022 (pictured left). JT and Kate have a son Parker who is 3! I would like to welcome Kate and Parker to our family! 

Rob's second son is Cam. Cam (27) will be happily married to Zoe Staude (26) on June 2, 2023. I would like to welcome Zoe to our family!

Russ and Lisa's oldest son is Troy. Troy (25) married Amanda Rieser (24) on August 20, 2022 (pictured left). I would like to welcome Amanda to our family! 

Russ and Lisa's second son Ryan (22) is graduating from University of Massachusetts Lowell in May with a degree in business. Congratulations Ryan!

Our whole family is excited to share this newsletter with you monthly going forward.

As we continue into 2023 please remember two things: Yes You Can and I love you all!

SAVE THE DATE!

The Hoyt Foundation is hosting its first annual Dick Hoyt Memorial "Yes You Can" Run Together event in honor and memory of Dick Hoyt.

The race will take place in Hopkinton MA, finishing with a great party at EMC park and passing by the iconic bronze statue of Dick Hoyt and Rick Hoyt on both the walk and run course.

Supporters have the option to participate in a 5 mile run or a 2 mile walk. The 5 mile run honors the distance of the first race Dick and Rick ever ran together.  The 2 mile walk honors that "twogether" we can all be included.

Stay tuned for more details on the race to be shared on our social media and in future editions of the newsletter.

Feature: The Augmentative Communication Program and the Rick Hoyt Augmentative Communication Fund at Boston Children's Hospital

The support that Team Hoyt and The Hoyt Foundation has provided to the Augmentative Communication Program has had innumerable benefits.  Team Hoyt's support has allowed us to have cutting edge technology, providing our patients with access to the very best options to meet their specific needs and skills.  It has allowed us to provide tools and materials to people who use AAC who could not get access to these simple tools through any funding source. It has allowed us to have the resources to explore and develop custom solutions for our patients using available tools, software and technology and, it has allowed our staff to participate in training and continuing education so they may bring the latest and best evidence-based tools and strategies to our patients in the Augmentative Communication Program.     

At a time when evidence-based application of technology and non-tech solutions are constantly being developed and updated and our most complex patients have dynamic needs that require them to have the most relevant options and our team must be most informed on these -  both assistive technology based and no-tech based- the incredible support of The Hoyt Foundation and Team Hoyt is more important to us than ever before.
